Accreditation

In May 1993, Groton Community School was awarded accreditation by the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs within the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). NAEYC recognizes early childhood programs which meet national standards of quality and excellence. The accreditation process requires parent and staff evaluation of our program and an onsite study and review by a national commission.

We maintained our accredited status through August 2007 with an annual review and by repeating the accreditation process every five years.  After taking a little time to understand new criteria and revised procedures within the accreditation process, we are very proud to have again received National Accreditation in April 2009.

In the 23 years since NAEYC Accreditation was established, it has become a widely recognized sign of high-quality early childhood education.  Almost 8,000 programs, serving one million young children, are currently accredited by NAEYC – approximately 8 percent of all preschools and other early childhood programs.  “The NAEYC Accreditation system raises the bar for preschools, child care centers and other early childhood programs,” said Mark Ginsberg, Ph.D., executive director of NAEYC.  “Groton Community School’s NAEYC Accreditation is a sign that they are a leader in a national effort to invest in high-quality early childhood education, and to help give all children a better start.”
