KITELET FROM THE DIRECTOR
Dear GCS Families,
I am writing to you as the end of another exciting school year comes to a close. We celebrate with you, our families, the meaningful friendships that children and families have made throughout the year. Each child has made remarkable strides, not only cognitively, but also in confidence, creativity, and character, setting a strong foundation for the road ahead. It has been heartwarming to watch them grow and support one another, discover new interests, and develop the skills needed as they continue on their young paths. Now, as we transition into the summer months, our school shifts gears into a vibrant summer camp experience—where fun, exploration, and continued growth await. Our themed adventures in “How the West Was Fun” will be celebrated over the next several weeks with crazy and fun opening songs each morning, donning our matching camp t-shirts, climbing up the steps for water slide splashes, caring for and harvesting produce from our garden beds, and plenty of time to play and connect with new and old friends. Our GCS Summer Camp promises to keep the spirit of learning alive as we work to stay “cool” in exciting ways.
SPIRIT DAYS
While we were very sad that the weather did not cooperate for our annual Family Picnic, we did have a lot of fun with our Spirit Days celebrations the last full week in June! We shared in parades, cheers, chants and songs together. Most heartwarming of all were the children’s responses when asked what makes a good school: playing with friends,
teachers, and taking care of each other. Thank you to our families for their GCS apparel purchases to show school spirit on these days, or any day!
COMMUNITY ROOM
Our Community Room is nearing completion and giving in every way. While there is still a punch list until full completion, children are enjoying the open space, moving and playing with smiles, dancing and “performing on stage”. Some of you were able to enjoy the space at the end of the school year, and it promises to bring programming and excitement in the new year coming our way. Stay tuned for more details as the summer months go by.
IN APPRECIATION
The success of the year does not happen without the collaborative effort, dedication and time from our Board members, Trustees, Room Parents, and families. We thank everyone for their contributions, hard work, and unwavering support! The enormous time, energy, support, and generosity have made a significant impact on our community, and we are truly grateful for your continued partnership and volunteer spirit. Please see the attached tribute as we say goodbye to some of our valued Board Members who will be moving on to new endeavors.
It goes without saying that our amazing teachers and staff make GCS what it is. Each one has given so much of themselves each day and every day. We are so grateful for all they do to make our school such an amazing place in the community.
GCS ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIPS
We were delighted to present awards this month for our 2025 GCS Alumni Scholarships. Congratulations to Jillian O’Keefe, Recipient of our GCS Scholarship in Memory of Taylor Benjamin Young and to Marin Hollingshead, Recipient of our GCS Scholarship in Memory of Christopher Barton! The Scholarship Committee has the difficult task of selecting from an amazing pool of alumni candidates each year, and we are so proud of them all. We look forward to remembering and honoring Taylor and Christopher, and seeing how our alumni soar. GCS
CLASS PHOTOS TAKE TWO
A reminder that we have new class photos at the front desk for those who placed orders. With the originals not as we had hoped for, we are grateful for the better print quality in the reprints. Please stop by when you are able.
A special thank you to Paul & Inga Nuccio (Blue Room teacher) for the donation of an American Flag & special tribute which included a picture of the drone that carried the flag over Afghanistan during Operation Freedom Sentinel & Resolute Support for the Global War on Terrorism. We thank Paul for his service and Inga for her many years of service to GCS.
We would also like to thank the following families for donations to GCS: The Fiori family for children’s books; the Hepburn & Casplar family for Swedish pastry for the Staff; the Hernandez-Wilson family for a Filipino lunch for Staff; our landscaper, Tim Siok, for vegetable plants; and to Brie Weider for popsicles.
Happy Summer!
Linda Kosinski, GCS Director
