April Showers Bring May Flowers!

Director Kitelet April 2019

Dear Families,

Rain, Rain, Go Away! There are always eventful days in an early childhood program when the rain continues to fall for days on end.  Classrooms try to find small snippets of time when the precipitation subsides long enough for a brief playground visit or even a brisk “rain run”.  The greenhouse has been a wonderful place to take shelter for a story, hands-on gardening opportunity, music and drum circles, and science/nature experiences.  It is even exciting to just sit inside and listen to the rain drops as they hit the top of the roof.   Never fear though, as it looks as though we are going to get a break in the weather on Saturday, just in time for our Spring Spruce-Up (May 4th 8 AM -1 PM).  With the arrival of spring are also the leftovers from our cold New England winters.  The school grounds and Playscape have taken a beating.  Please consider lending us an hour or so of your time to spruce up our outdoor space and keep tuition at bay, no talent or skill required.  Sign-up here!

 WEEK OF THE YOUNG CHILD

Well, the month of April has come to an end, but not without several weeks of amazing spring activities and Week of the Young Child celebrations.  With the greenhouse open for business, each class was able to plant and care for their vegetable seeds that will be transplanted into our playground planters for summer care and harvest.  They also planted pansies for community bucket sharing.  Check out the many beautiful buckets in area businesses and organizations around Groton. Thank you to families for helping to instill caring and sharing in your children with the generous donations of art materials.   We gathered the donations, and each classroom was able to put together “Creativity Kits” in beautiful child- decorated bags that were then delivered to a second-grade class in Worcester, MA.  Most of us here at GCS are so fortunate, and it is important to learn about the needs of others and share whenever possible.   We are planting tiny seeds in our children as they grow and learn about appreciating all they have and how they can help and care for others.  Staff were also treated to a wonderful staff luncheon (thank you room parents), and the school enjoyed a special musical performance by Cheryl Melody, who shared her music about love and peace.   Sharing trail mix snack together during our Peace Picnics was the perfect addition to a very special week.

SCHOOL SPIRIT

School spirit was certainly in full swing last Thursday and Friday for GCS Spirit Days, as teachers and young children showed off their school attire, gathered together for school-wide pep rallies, and paraded around the school chanting, “GCS is the Best!”   We are so fortunate to be in the presence of such dedicated families and a talented, committed teaching staff.
