Director Kitelet June 2018

Dear GCS Families,

Another exciting school year has come to an end, and the lazy days of summer are upon us.  The close of a wonderful year together celebrates new friendships, tremendous growth, and the beginning of a new journey.  Celebrate the small successes and growth that your child has made throughout the year and look ahead with excitement for new adventures.  We thank the many families that have volunteered here throughout the year by serving on the Board, holding the role of Room Parent, participating in our Fix-Up and Spruce-Up Days, participating and/or attending our Home Tour, working in our GCS Library, offering baked goods and donations, and so much more.  We are forever grateful for your time, kindness, and generosity in helping us be the best that we can be for young children, families, and the community.   We wouldn’t be who we are without all of you.  We are looking forward to the taste of ice cream and corn on the cob and the smell of the ocean and sun lotion.  Camp Kaleidoscope is just about to get into full swing with Half Day Sessions joining our Full Day friends as we celebrate “How the West Was Fun” throughout the summer.   Please inquire with us if you haven’t already signed up (very limited openings).

Board of Director Good-byes

Speaking of volunteers, we are so fortunate to have the support, creativity, hard work of our voluntary Board of Directors to help enrich the day-to-day experiences of our children, families, and staff.   It is always sad to say good-bye to those volunteers who are moving on from their position and/or the school when their children move on to “big kid” school.  Please see the attached tributes to Jeremy Chapman (Building and Grounds Co-Chair), Christine Emma (Treasurer), and Shagufta Rahman (Parent Representative Co-Chair).  Best of luck to you all!

Family Survey

Each year at Groton Community School we undergo an evaluation process to get feedback from staff, Board of Directors members, and of course our GCS families.  We utilize the information shared to enhance our programs andfacility, and best serve our entire community.  Thank you to all those who shared their time and opinions with us!

Family Survey Summary 2017-2018

Family to Family

We are so grateful to have sent thoughts and well wishes to many GCS families, staff, and friends through our “Family to Family Fund”.  This voluntary fund that so many of you participated in made all of these kind gestures possible.  This fund is managed by the Executive Board of Directors, and we happy to share more detail if anyone would like more information.  Please be sure to let us know if there is someone in our school community who may need support of any kind.

GCS Scholarships
Scholarship Recipient Rachel Trickett

It is with great honor, that we share the recipients of two Groton Community School Scholarships that are awarded to college-bound high school seniors who attended GCS as young children.  Please join me in congratulating Rachel Trickett & Ellie Eisenklam for receiving the Scholarship in Memory of Christopher Barton AND Katelyn McKiel & Kyle Adams for receiving the Scholarship in Memory of Taylor Benjamin Young.

Scholarship Recipients Ellie Eisenklam and Katelyn McKiel

These recipients were honored during our most recent Board of Directors meeting earlier this month.  We know these young adults will continue to embody the guiding principles of Christopher and Taylor.

Thank You!

We’d like to give a special thanks to the Peters family for treating the staff to a Panera breakfast before the end of school, and to the Burgess family for a homemade breakfast the following week!  Another special thanks to the Khare family for having pizza delivered to GCS for lunch on the last day of school.  Thank you to the Zukauskas family for an Edible Arrangement, the Jaz-Lynde family for a cookie tray, Bordiuk Family for staff treats, and to the Wilder family for a huge donation of Keurig K-Cups for the staff, as well. Finally, our Board of Directors treated staff to a delicious clean-up day luncheon.  Wow, do we ever feel spoiled!  Thanks, too, to the Foster family for their donation of a tricycle and to the Gershen family for a donation of children’s books.

Happy Summer!

Linda Kosinski, Director
