Soaring News June 2022

Dear Families,

Another fabulous school year has come to a close.  It is always so hard to believe just how fast June seems to have rolled around.  The school has been busy and full of celebrations, music and shows, ice cream socials, special guests, art portfolio sharing, our GCS family picnic… and even a few tears.  The quote displayed on our road sign tells it all…

“Don’t Cry Because It’s Over, Smile Because it Happened!”  – Dr Seuss

There were so many wonderful moments created during this school year for children, staff, and families.  Saying goodbye is never easy!    We hope you leave with many special memories, new friendships, and the celebration of the many successes in your child’s growth.

MEMORIAL DAY REMEMBRANCE

The last few weeks of school also brought a special guest.   We were honored to welcome US Air Force Master Sergeant Michael Kennedy (father to Kelly in Kindergarten & husband to Assistant Teacher, Jean, in Purple and Blue Rooms), as we gathered in remembrance of Memorial Day.  Sergeant Kennedy shared with the children the meaning of Memorial Day, led us all in the Pledge of Allegiance, helped to place American Flags in our gardens, and joined us in singing “God Bless America” and “Red, White and Blue”.  We are grateful for his time and his service.  While is it is always nice to have a long weekend together, it is also important for children to understand the meaning and purpose behind the time away from school.

SPRING SPRUCE-UP

A special thank you to staff, board members, and families who gathered together to help with some playground spruce-up.  We spread mulch, planted grass seed, prepared garden beds, made some repairs, and began the reconstruction of our greenhouse.  So many hands made for some much-needed improvements. We are grateful to Tim Buck, David Bushery, Kaitlyn Brokaw, Hao Cai, Melissa Dewing, Greg Doyle, Laura Hankin, Mihir Joshi, Jean Kennedy, Kelly Lopez, Terri Martin, Jonny Monahan, Ann & Bray Rodriguez, Lisa Stafford, Virgil Vaillancourt, and Meghan Zocchi for their time and hard work.

FAMILY SURVEY

Thank you to the many families who took time to share their thoughts in our Family Survey. We do rely on your feedback and suggestions as we plan for the future.  We also know it has been a year that has continued to be challenging in many ways with COVID, and we once again want to thank you for your patience, support, and understanding in all that we have done to keep everyone safe and the school open.  Please be on the lookout for survey results once they are tabulated.

GOOD-BYE (FOR NOW)

While many of you will be returning for another year here at GCS, I realize that many of you are also moving on.  Please know that we are always here for you in the future and you can call upon us at any time!  We take great pride in helping to care and educate your children and are grateful for the trusting relationships that we have formed together.  If you plan to return with a younger sibling in the future, please contact Bonnie for a Pre-Enrollment Form to complete and return so we have that on file.

GCS CAMP

There are still few spaces left in our August half day camp session (August 2nd – 11th).  Give the school a call if you are interested.

BOARD NEWS

We are sadly saying goodbye to two special board members, Caera Monihan and Christina Sutherland.  We are so grateful for all of their board contributions and wish them the best.  Our group will reconvene mid-August, so if you are looking to get more involved in happenings here at GCS, please give me a call.  We are always looking for individuals with the desire to contribute and work with a fun group.

THANK YOU!

We’d like to thank the following families for the generous donations to GCS:  The Abraham family for pizza for the Staff; the Champagne family for a dollhouse & book; the Dewing family for a block puzzle; the Doyle family for hand sanitizer, the Engstrom family for toys & curriculum materials; the Hall-Smith family for spare clothing; and to the Doherty, Doyle, Kramer, & Quinn families for Staff snacks.

I hope you enjoy the warmer summer days that are upon us and wish you all safe and fun months ahead.

Linda Kosinski GCS Director
