Director Kitelet – September 2025

Dear Families,

It has been such a wonderful start to the school year, welcoming back returning families, meeting new faces, and watching new friendships begin.  While there have been some moments here and there of transition, our school is already starting to feel like a family.

BIRTHDAY WISHES…

Congratulations to Groton Community School on its 80th Birthday!  With its roots going back to a one-room schoolhouse, official beginning as Groton Community Kindergarten 1945 at First Parish Church, to our beautiful new home here at 110 Boston Road…we have come a long way!!  Of course, what would a birthday be without a festive celebration?  It was great fun to gather together for music, balloons, singing, and of course…ice cream cups and sprinkles.  We are so fortunate to have such an amazing early childhood space for young children and families here in our community.

SCHOOLWIDE THEME

We have an exciting school-wide theme that we will be exploring throughout the year with staff and children: Story Seeds: Planting a Love for Literacy.  Our goals and trainings will delve deeper into our pre-reading/pre-writing curriculum and focus on those foundational skills that all work together to help children develop into strong readers and writers.   We will certainly share with you along the way, but feel free to explore Stacy Benge’s, The Whole Child Alphabet: How Young Children Actually Develop Literacy, if you wanted to follow along with us.

NEW BEGINNINGS

While the start of the school year is very exciting, you will find that we are busy with so many fun and exciting adventures in your child’s first school experiences.  Please feel free to ask questions and call, stop by, or email us if we can provide guidance and clarification.  Get as involved as you would like, but most of all, enjoy the many special moments ahead.  We hope to see some of you at our Peace Pole Rededication Ceremonies next Friday, October 10th!

CONGRATULATIONS!

Congratulations to the Crowley family on the birth of their daughter (sister, Brenna, is in the AM Pre-K class) and to the Heil family on the birth of their son (brother, Max, is in the FD Pre-K class).

THANK YOU!

Our special thanks to the Lane Hand family in England for sending flowers for GCS’s 80th birthday.  The Hands are a past family and Cindi Lane Hand is a past Board President.  It was so nice of them to think of GCS from “across the pond”!

We have had quite a few donations to the school over the Summer and in September.  We would like to extend our thanks to:  The Crampton, Eubank, Forkel, McCarron & Sulprizio families for toys/curriculum materials; the Esielionis-Kichen family for a case of plastic bags; the Fiori family for chapter books; Rob Flynn for an abundance of paper & envelopes; the Gehlot, Lambert, Marchand-Sanchez & Wilson-Hernandez families for Staff snacks; Brendan Greenman for magazines & masks; the Grove family for Pull-Ups; the Laurano family for a large paper roll; Peggy McAvoy for puppets; and to the Vadvalkar family for spare snow clothes.

Happy Fall!

Linda Kosinski, GCS Director
